What I'm listening to: California Soul-Marlena Shaw.

Perfect cut for the day. The mid-day sun has not quite presented itself yet and the weather network says that it's 20 degrees outside, and will hit 27 today. Good times.

I saw one apartment in the Latin Quarter, just around the corner from here. From the ad, I had the impression that the house has two girls and one guy in there already, and I would add another sphere of maleness to the house, thereby equalizing the gender balance. As it turns out, 'Pat' turned out to be 'Patricia', not 'Patrick' as I initially suspected. As our phone conversation continued, the head of the household asked me what year I was in, I said going into the 2nd year of my master's. They told me that they are going into 3rd year..of undergrad.

At that point I knew that I wouldn't take the place, but I figured that I'd go and see it anyway just to get more interview experience as well as to see another living space-academically I'm into the politics of domestic space, so I guess this is just some kind of perverse voyeurism. Who knows.

Anyway, so the room itself is tiny, but they do have a decent sized living room, and they have one of those cool roman tubs with the feet-the ones that will transplant you into a parallel dimension if you stay in them long enough. And...a three step walk up from the bathroom to a giant rooftop patio...with a gorgeous view of the skyline and the south, so it's good for fireworks watching, etc.

As soon as I walked in, one of them looked at me and asked, snarky snarky, "how old are you??". I replied my age, which I guess would place us at each polar end of the high school age spectrum.

But, all of their eyes lit up when I said that I'm a DJ, and a painter. And, also they shared some of their mary jane with me while I was there. Cool people. Very cool people, but realistically I wouldn't get any work done at home if I lived there. It would be a party house. If I were 21 again, I'd be all over that place. But, I'm not 21 anymore, and next year I'm writing my thesis, so I need a work space.

I saw another place yesterday evening that I will take if the host will have me. I get an office, and location is good, and the rent is cheap. Right now I'm just waiting on the ok, because apparently there's one other person in the running for this place. If I don't get any word by Thurdsay, I'll call and see what the story is, so at least then I'll know if I should keep on looking. I really hope this one comes through, because I do like the place, and also it'll save me from looking for apartments again.

Now for the brunch...I had forgotten how much I like entertaining. I had about 10 people over, all but one could make it. I made vegan pancakes with strawberries, and they were a big hit. I also served some German marble cake that went over well, and of course fresh mint tea that is becoming a trademark of my living spaces-I grow the plant for cooking and tea. Mint tea and shisha is the cat's meow...

We hung out, ate, talked for about 3 hours, until somebody said "hey, it's almost 2pm!", then the party fizzled. That's ok, I was tired anyway and napped the rest of the afternoon. I was called the "hostess with the mostess". I think I'll take that as a compliment.

On Sunday, I ran into one of the lovely ladies I had coffee with last week at the park. We smoked, sat down, chatted, lay down, made shapes out of the clouds, giggled. All in all a wonderful afternoon. We ended up going out to dinner that evening, I offered to pay for the meal, and in turn she bought me some stellar chocolate afterwards, all in all a wonderful evening. Let's see what happens next...
