What I'm listening to: Serenade for Strings-Dvorak.

This is one of my favourite pieces of music. I love strings, they are so pleasing to the ear. As we strolled around Cambridge, and as I found out that Tchikovsky's Serenade for Strings was to be heard that evening, I lamented that I couldn't stay to see it. Then I found out that she plays the violin, and was considering that as a career before coming to grad school. Somebody with an practicing ear for music...could I ask for anything more. She would likely understand my perverse fixation with vintage tube amplifiers...

Ahhhh, we're about to get to the second movement. I've been thinking about the idea of dropping this morning. Exhaust as a social phenomenon, and its relationship to some kind of ideology. I'm about to take books back to the library, I have to shift apartments shortly, and thus do away with the extraneous ditties of bits and bobs that I won't need in my new home. Writing this blog is like the morning release before I go apartment hunting. The exhaust pipe on a car is at the end of the car, so the smoke just puffs away and the journey diffuses away into the past. Being an archivist, you tend to think about these things. I'd like to visit a garbage dump someday, just to see where all this shit goes. All the waste, discards, dropped material, moved into one physical location, taking on a new context, every object with a new neighbour, social value rejected to the margins of the city space: garbage dumps.

Speaking of dumps, looks like it's about that time......
