What I'm listening to: the ambient early noise of the city-busses, cars going by on the wet pavement, muffled conversations, footsteps on the sidewalk, but more importantly, bird songs.

That's what I miss most about my parents' place in Ottawa. There are power lines behind our house, and we have a birdbath as well. So there are a lot of places for birds to hang out in the early morning. I miss listening to the bird songs, because I always wonder what they are saying. I wonder how those sounds make meaning.

I especially enjoy snoozing, waking up slowly, while listening to these sounds. It reminds me of a summer weekend, likely a Saturday. The one moment of repose before the hustle and bustle of the day off begins. Errand day, and a day to meet with other friends who are also off.

My room used to be on the East side of the house. That was fantastic, because in the summertime, I would sleep with the drapes open so that I could wake up with the warm sunshine on my face. I still remember the sight: with your eyes closed, everything shines a bright red.
